Ofsted Commends High-Quality Training, SEND Support, and Career-Ready Apprentices
HOLMFIRTH, UK – Specialist apprenticeship provider Basegreen has earned a “Good” rating across all key areas in its first full Ofsted inspection. The report highlights the provider’s strong leadership, exceptional support for learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), and industry-relevant training that prepares apprentices for high-pressure roles in health and social care.
Ofsted praised Basegreen for realising its ambition to provide “high-quality, specialist training to meet the increased demand for a skilled workforce in pre-hospital care and adult and children’s social care.”
The inspection evaluated the Children, Young People and Families
Practitioner and Associate Ambulance Practitioner programmes, noting that 91% of learners in the latter achieved distinctions at endpoint assessment—successfully mirrored by SEND learners.
What Basegreen Does Well – Key Ofsted Highlights
• Ambitious, Industry-Focused Leadership
Leaders work closely with employers to design training that meets business needs and builds apprentices’ confidence and competence. As Ofsted notes, “They plan training that meets business needs and secures apprentices’ competence and confidence, ready for work in high-pressure environments.”
• Effective Learner Support and Progress Monitoring
Leaders have strengthened relationships with employers and now identify at-risk learners earlier, leading to improved retention and outcomes:
“Most apprentices remain on their programmes, make good progress and achieve within the planned timescale.”
• Well structured SEND Provision
Staff are well-trained in supporting a range of needs—including dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, and visual impairments.
“Apprentices with SEND engage well with their learning and achieve in line with their peers.”
• Expert Teaching and Sector Knowledge
Tutors use sector expertise and work-based scenarios to deepen understanding. For example, CYPFP tutors effectively explain “the science of resilience in children and how this can be further strengthened.”
• Strong English and Maths Support
Apprentices receive targeted academic support, including training in writing techniques and medication measurement. A significant proportion pass functional skills exams on the first attempt.
• Ethical Awareness and Personal Development
Apprentices demonstrate clear understanding of British values, diversity, and safeguarding. Many participate in social action, offering clinical services at community events.
“The inspection process was incredibly supportive,” said a company spokesperson. “The findings reflect our strengths and our vision for quality, inclusive apprenticeship training. We’re already taking steps to build on this feedback and further improve the experience for every learner.”

Basegreen has integrated Ofsted’s recommendations into its quality improvement plan, reinforcing its commitment to continuous improvement. The provider continues to collaborate with employers and internal teams to enhance learner outcomes and teaching quality.
